The cheapest and most easily accessable part of the necessary equipment is the safelight. Similar to the red/orange light used in a photographic darkroom, this light is used to allow you to safely handle unexposed blueprint paper. As long a s the paper is protected from other sources of light while you handle it, the paper should be safe.

The most effective safelight I’ve found so far is a simple orange ‘bug away’ light bulb, the incandescent kind. I use one in a clip-on lamp and have had great s uccess using it. These bulbs are available at most hardware stores and even manydrugstore chains for under $2 each.
